Types of Matka Bets: Every Wager on One Result Line

Someone hands you a slip that reads 458-74-239 and asks what could have been played on it. Quite a lot, as it turns out. Every bet type in an ordinary day or night market is a way of naming one piece of that line, or two pieces together. The names change from desk to desk. The pieces underneath do not.

This guide walks the whole list on that single line. Nothing here is a tip; it is a map of the shapes, so that "motor" or "family" stops sounding like a secret.

Take the line apart first

The left number, 458, is the open panna. Add its digits: 4 + 5 + 8 = 17. Keep only the last digit: 7 is the open ank. On the right sits 239, the close panna. Its digits add to 14 (2 + 3 + 9), so 4 is the close ank. Put open ank before close ank and the middle number appears: 74, the jodi.

Three digits, then a pair, then three digits. Each wager below points at one of those parts. The beginner walkthrough does the arithmetic more slowly if that felt quick.

Wagers on one digit

Single ank

You name a digit from 0 to 9 and say which side it is for. An open single on 7 wins on this line. A close single on 4 wins. A close single on 7 loses, because the close ank is 4.

Open and close are timing, not two games

An open bet settles as soon as the first panna is out. A close bet stays live until the second panna is out. Most boards still accept close bets after the open has been declared, up to a cut-off, so a close single is sometimes placed with the open ank already known. That knowledge says nothing about the close; the two draws are separate events.

Wagers on the pair

Jodi

Two digits, open ank first. On this line only 74 wins. The reverse, 47, is a different jodi and loses. One hundred pairs exist, 00 to 99, and they are laid out on the 100 jodi chart. A jodi cannot settle at the open, because it needs both ends.

Red jodi

A red jodi is a pair with a particular shape. Either both digits match (00, 11, 22, through to 99), or the two digits are a cut pair. A cut ank is what you get by adding 5 to a digit and dropping any tens: 7 becomes 2, 4 becomes 9, 0 becomes 5. The cut pairs are 05, 50, 16, 61, 27, 72, 38, 83, 49 and 94. Our jodi 74 is not red. Playing "reds" means covering that set of twenty pairs, each as its own jodi ticket. Every digit and its partner sit together on the cut ank chart.

Jodi family

Take the jodi 74. Swap either digit for its cut, in any combination, and allow both orders. You get 74, 47, 24, 42, 79, 97, 29 and 92. That set of eight is the family of 74. A family bet covers all of its members, again as separate tickets. The jodi family chart shows how the hundred pairs split into these groups.

Wagers on three digits

A panna is always three digits, written in ascending order with 0 placed last, so 4, 5 and 8 is 458 and 0, 2 and 9 is 290. There are exactly 220 of them, catalogued on the 220 panna list, and they come in three shapes.

Each shape is played on a side. An open single panna of 458 wins here. A close double panna of 233 loses, because the close panna was 239. A panna bet must match all three digits as printed; matching the ank is not enough.

Cycle patti

A cycle is a pair of digits that a panna contains. Play the cycle 58 and you cover the pannas holding both a 5 and an 8: 158, 258, 358, 458, 558, 568, 578, 588, 589 and 580. Each is a separate ticket. On this line the ticket for 458 wins and the other nine lose.

SP and DP motor

A motor is a bundle built from a handful of chosen digits. Choose 2, 3, 4 and 9. The SP motor on those digits is every single panna you can make from them: 234, 239, 249 and 349. The DP motor is every double panna: 223, 224, 229, 233, 334, 339, 244, 344, 449, 299, 399 and 499. The close panna 239 sits inside the SP motor, so one ticket in that bundle wins. Motor is the name of a shopping list, not of a separate draw.

Wagers that join the two ends

Half sangam

One ank from one side and one panna from the other. On 458-74-239 there are two winning half sangams: ank 7 from the open paired with the close panna 239, or the open panna 458 paired with ank 4 from the close. Both halves must be right.

Full sangam

Both pannas, open then close: 458 with 239. The jodi is not part of it, because the two pannas already fix it.

Starline has a shorter list

Starline declares about once an hour and prints a panna plus its ank and nothing more, for example 458-7. With no close there is no jodi, no half sangam and no full sangam. What remains is the single ank and the three panna shapes, along with the bundles built from them.

What a name cannot do

None of these labels changes the chance of anything. A single ank is one of ten. A jodi is one of a hundred. A red jodi is still one jodi, with the same one-in-a-hundred chance as a plain one; the colour is a filing mark. A family bet on 74 costs eight tickets and can win at most one of them. Every panna in a motor faces the odds it would face alone. Grouping cannot shorten the odds; it only raises the outlay. The rates and payouts page sets those odds beside the multipliers usually quoted, and the formulas fact check tests the claim that a trick beats them.

Before any of it becomes a stake

Satta Matka Result records declared lines. It runs no desk, sets no rate and holds no stake, and the record tells you which shapes have appeared, never which will appear next. Every draw is random and owes nothing to the one before it. In most Indian states, betting on matka is against the law; where any form of it is permitted, it is for adults aged 18 and over only. If you do play where the law allows, use money whose loss would change nothing about your week. If it would, the right bet type is none of the above. More on that is in responsible play.
